Smoky Black Bean Burger

Instructions

  1. Cook quinoa and saute onions. Allow them to cool before making burgers.
  2. Prepare the glaze by mixing all the glaze ingredients in a bowl. Adjust flavors according to your taste (I usually add a bit of salt, too).
  3. Drain and rinse the black beans. Put in a large bowl. Mash with a potato masher.
  4. Add quinoa, onions, bread crumbs, and spices to the bowl. Mash to incorporate ingredients. (You can also use a food processor)
  5. Mix the ingredients a bit further with a spatula or your hands.
  6. Form 6 patties, about 1/2-3/4" thick

Stovetop: Heat oil over medium-high heat, add patties and cook for 5 minutes or until lightly browned. Flip patties and cook another 5 minutes. Remove, brush with glaze.

Oven: Preheat oven to 350F. Line a baking sheet with parchment and bake 12-15 minutes, flip patties, and bake 12-15 minutes more. Brush patties with glaze.
