Cottage Pie

Cottage pie is a variation of the English dish Shepherds pie. The only difference between the dishes is that cottage pie substitutes ground beef for ground lamb.

Ingredients

  1. Peel and cube the potatoes and cook in a pot of boiling water untill tender
  2. Heat oil in a large pot and add the vegetables
  3. Cook vegetables for 15 minutes or until tender
  4. Add beef to vegetables and cook until beef is no longer pink, do not drain
  5. Add parsley and beef broth to the beef and vegetables
  6. Season beef to taste using season salt, Rosemary, Thyme, Nutmeg, salt and pepper
  7. Mix flour with 1/2 cup of warm water and strain into beef and vegetables
  8. Continue cooking beef until broth thickens then remove from pan and spread in the bottom of a baking dish
  9. Drain water from potatoes and combine with butter and milk, whip with an electric mixer
  10. Add salt and pepper to potatoes to taste
  11. Spread potatoes on top of beef and vegetables in the baking dish
  12. Top potatoes with shredded cheese
  13. Bake
  14. Allow to cool for at least 10 minutes before serving
  15. In place of cheese on top of the potatoes you could place slices of butter and paprika.
